Discuss what commentators and analysts mean when they refer to the Information Society?
This is the title of my assignment. I’m expected to write a conversation/debate on a matter concerning the above under one of the following headlines:
Can anyone explain/provide an example for me to work under? Thank you in advance!
The information society is a society where the creation, distribution, diffusion, use, integration and manipulation of information is a significant economic, political, and cultural activity. The aim of the information society is to gain competitive advantage internationally, through using IT in a creative and productive way. The knowledge economy is its economic counterpart, whereby wealth is created through the economic exploitation of understanding. People who have the means to partake in this form of society are sometimes called digital citizens. As Beniger shows, this is one of many dozen labels that have been identified to suggest that we are entering a new phase of society.
The markers of this rapid change may be technological, economic, occupational, spatial, cultural, or some combination of all of these. Information society is seen as the successor to industrial society. Closely related concepts are the post-industrial society (Daniel Bell), post-fordism, post-modern society, knowledge society, Telematic Society, Information Revolution, Liquid modernity, and network society (Manuel Castells).

How do i start my own Blog or Site?
I am a Radio Presenter for a show at my Uni and i want up my game for publicity, and what seems to be the most popular thing to do with others is their own Blog or Site. So How do i do this?
A blog is a type of web site. You may want to take some time to develop some specific goals in regards to your online presence first.
You can either run a blog-centered web site mostly by yourself (which will provide more control & longevity) or use a developer-hosted blog service to start a blog (which will be more automated, easier, & cheaper). See http://www.problogger.net/archives/2006/02/15/choosing-a-blog-platform/ for more details regarding your blogging options. If you want to create a blog or web site on a FREE platform, then you’ll likely have to deal with ads or various restrictions. Also, blogs can be a feature in social-networking services. Social-networking sites – such as Facebook – have extended functions (like chatting, quizzing, and etc.) and are focused on connecting with other profiles.
Here are some online services to check out. Usually there are basic instructions on the front page or “Help” pages. Also, you should check to see what a service’s policy is regarding profiting off the web site or blog. Initially, you just need to create an online free account by registering with one of the services. Then, you can figure out design and programming elements from there:
FREE SITE CREATION SERVICES:
Google Pages (http://sites.google.com/ ), Yola (http://www.yola.com/ ), Jimdo (http://www.jimdo.com/ ), Wetpaint (http://www.wetpaint.com/ ), Angelfire (http://www.angelfire.lycos.com/ ), Tripod (http://www.tripod.lycos.com/ ), and a list of services from FreeSite.com (http://www.thefreesite.com/Free_Web_Space/ ).
FREE DEVELOPER-HOSTED BLOG SERVICES:
Blogger/Blogspot (http://blogger.com ), WordPress (http://wordpress.com ), Livejournal (http://livejournal.com ), Vox (http://vox.com ), Typepad (http://typepad.com ), Travelpod (http://www.travelpod.com/ ), Tumblr (http://www.tumblr.com/ ).
FREE SOCIAL-NETWORKING SERVICES WITH A BLOG FEATURE:
MySpace (http://myspace.com ), Multiply (http://multiply.com ), Xanga (http://xanga.com ), Windows Live Spaces (http://spaces.live.com/ ), Ning (http://ning.com ). Bebo (http://www.bebo.com/ ) and Gaia (http://www.gaiaonline.com/ ) are sites geared toward teenagers.
You also may want to check out http://blog-services-review.toptenreviews.com/ and http://social-networking-websites-review.toptenreviews.com/ , which provides a listing of top services and features (excluding Yahoo! 360 from the blog list).
If you’re going to use the site for business, it’s probably best if you develop a marketing and profit plan first. Basically, construct a e-commerce business model. See details here: http://digitalenterprise.org/models/models.html , http://www.inc.com/articles/2000/06/20003.html , and http://www.ehow.com/how_2064971_create-ecommerce-plan.html . If you decide to go with a mostly blog format, see http://problogger.net for a wealth of information on not only starting a blog, but also how to make money while blogging. Here are a couple articles from that site: http://www.problogger.net/archives/2006/02/14/blogging-for-beginners-2/ and http://www.problogger.net/archives/2005/12/06/how-bloggers-make-money-from-blogs/ .
NOTE: You may want to post future questions on this subject in the relevant Computers & Internet > Internet subcategory or in Computers & Internet > Programming & Design.
Obama praises and backs the Wall Street Protesters. What is the reason?
Could it be Obama is still ticked off because of the Supreme Court ruling that allows unlimited corporate donations to political campaigns.Do you remember how he slammed and embarrassed the court justices in front of congress at a State of Union address. He is afraid because of the wealth of some banks and corporations the Republicans will get more money then the DNC.Does he hate wealth so much (unless the wealth is coming to him) that he is willing to support social chaos?
Simply follow the socialist / marxist yellow brick road to the abyss of extinction ! SAUL ALINSKI’S RULES FOR RADICALS IS ALIVE AND WELL IN ‘OCCUPY WALL STREET’ PROTESTS
10-05-2011 ….The hippie horde attempting to mob and “occupy” Wall Street this week has a method to its madness. It’s all about getting President Obama re-elected by employing classic Alinskyite tactics.
At first glance, the latest protests staged by left-wing rent-a-mobs in New York, Washington, Los Angeles and elsewhere don’t look terribly different from the World Trade Organization and global debt-amnesty spectaculars of a decade ago. Radicals swarm against some hated totem, chant, break a few Starbucks windows and leave scads of garbage for someone else to clean up.
But the “Occupy Wall Street” mob that shut down the Brooklyn Bridge last weekend and drew 700 arrests bears all the earmarks of a professional political machine effort to keep Obama in the White House.
This time, banks were the target, as mobs bore down on Wall Street and posted demands on their Twitter feed to tax and arrest bankers. They knew a soft spot when they saw one.
Polls show the public continues to blame banks instead of administration policies for the economic downturn and widespread joblessness. Singling out banks is a tactic torn right from the playbook of Obama’s political mentor, Chicago community organizer Saul Alinsky.
“The goal,” wrote David Horowitz’s DiscoverTheNetworks.com of Alinsky, “is to foment enough public discontent, moral confusion and outright chaos to spark the social upheaval that Marx, Engels and Lenin predicted — a revolution whose foot soldiers view the status quo as fatally flawed and unworthy of salvation.”
“The key to radical social change,” wrote Stanley Kurtz in his Alinsky biography “Radical-in-Chief,” “was to turn the wrath of America’s middle class against large corporations.”
To some, it may be a stretch to see the hand of the Obama political machine in what is claimed to be a grass-roots effort. But the facts on the ground point to it.
For one thing, the organizers of these protests are the same ones who got Obama elected in 2008.
Last Aug. 11, former Obama “green czar” and community organizer Van Jones sent out an email to supporters calling for a new plan to “Rebuild the Dream.” It called for infrastructure jobs to “rebuild our crumbling bridges” — exactly the line Obama presented in subsequent speeches.
In the same email, Jones — a self-described communist — called for jailing big bankers and instituting a “tiny fee” to siphon billions from bank transactions “to spend on Main Street job-creation,” which are also things Obama favors.
Jones sent his series of screeds using MoveOn.org’s server and database. MoveOn.org was the earliest high-visibility support network for Obama during his election in 2008 and is now heavily involved in the Occupy Wall Street actions. Coincidence?
“Wall Street has long been the home of the biggest threat to American democracy,” Jones wrote Sunday. “So, this Wednesday we’re joining with MoveOn, and labor and community groups in New York for a massive march down to the Occupy Wall Street encampment.”
Now we have the president himself saying he feels “sympathy” for the aims of the Wall Street protestors, while the rest of Obama’s political machine — Big Labor — is marching to join in. It’s no coincidence that Occupy Wall Street’s first demand is a sop to Big Labor: ending all free trade.
Now, socialist billionaire George Soros has offered support for the protestors. All of these players — Jones, MoveOn, Big Labor and Soros — were critical to Obama’s victory in 2008.
As the mob seeks to hammer into the public’s mind that Wall Street is the enemy, it’s not hard to see the political value to Obama: deflecting attention from the economic failures of this presidency.
To use political pawns in this way is nothing but a cynical effort to boost this president’s political fortunes. To those of us who work for a living, the unkempt shock troops blocking those bridges may look useless. In fact, they amount to Obama’s principal political base.
What was the real reason for the Viet Nam War?
In global politics, there is a mainstream or official reason for starting a war and there is a non-mainstream reason for starting or joining a war.
For example, the current war in Iraq is officially part of the War on Terror, i.e. we’re “fighting terror”. But the non-mainstream reason for it and what most people believe is that the U.S. is in Iraq for their petroleum fields.
The official reason for the Viet Nam War was to prevent its fall to the Soviets (and also other neighboring countries–the Domino Theory). This is the official reason. What is the real or non-mainstream reason for the Viet Nam War?
Jimmbbo– If in fact the reason for invading Iraq was for their petroleum fields, the same vested interests that are now profiting from the war will be the ones to profit from whatever oil is present in Iraq (some of the largest remaining petroleum fields by many studies). The petroleum won’t translate into lower gasoline prices for the American people. It’s not going to be nationalized.
You probably heard that the troops were always kept from directly attacking the so-called viet cong (a madison avenue creation, they called themselves the national liberation army), always playing tag and never allowing for all-out assault and victory, while the budget deficits, federal borrowing and casualties mounted. Meanwhile the western central banks were channeling money to north VN so they could buy soviet weapons. Do you see who profited? The same people who are profiting from the so-called “war on terror”, who created al-qaeda in afghanistan in the first place. The ones who brought down the weimar republic and shored up hitler (the “hitler project”). The ones who plundered the american economy during the great depression and who arranged for the destruction of the western economies today, by inflating and deflating bubbles and waging pointless wars. The ones who hired the demolitions experts to wire the world trade center before 9/11. The ones who are blackmailing members of congress to use the USA as their gendarme to create global government. Who smuggle heroin and cocaine into this country with impunity, to finance their self-funded operations. Who teach nazi torture techniques to the mercenaries they hire to enforce their natural resource-looting dictatorships in the 3rd world. Who murdered JFK and MLK when they became a danger to their profit streams. Who have bought every major media outlet in secret and brought down a cloak of censorship and propaganda that the USSR could only have dreamed of.
In short, the people who control the central banks, who have a license to print money, who are above all governments, whose network of corporate ownership and control is secret, whose fathomless wealth goes back many generations. Who buy and sell politicians and governments at auction. The wizards behind the curtain. The powers behind the throne.

When will we finally get REAL financial reform?
Obama’s reform bill was a joke.
When will we finally get REAL financial reform that makes it ILLEGAL for the US government to “bail out” financial companies?
I’ve been waiting for someone from the so-called Tea Party to propose a bill along these lines, but they are asleep at the wheel.
So is this simply a case of Wall Street winning again no matter what?
Mindboggling you’d wait for the Tea Party.
They’r not asleep, they’r committed to the opposite. “Freedom for our great corporations to bring great wealth to America if only they can be freed from Maxist-Kenyan, anti-American, big govt regulations!”
Wall St dint “simply” win again. It won yet again bc its propaganda machine fooled enought of the people into voting for its deregulation stooges.
The only way to get real reform of the situation where corporations buy politicians who grant them carte blanch, is to have a Dem pres and Dem super-majorities in congress.
Otherwise, the plutocrat-controlled GOP and its spin-off Tea Party will obstruct all laws and regs to get that reform.
The astro-turf right wing “populism” was created by the far right plutocratic bosses, the Texan Koch brothers, SPECIFICALLY to function as a diversion to catch voters who wanted more simplistic anti-govt action [rhetoric, really, not action] than the mainstream GOP was offering.
But the plutocratic bosses arent going to let their creation, the Tea Party, ruin THEIR party at the feeding trough of deregulated industry and a gutted tax base.
Paul Krugman: The Canadian govt’s strict regulation with its Financial Consumer Agency saved it from The Great Recession, but the US Senate’s GOP is poised to kill the House’s regulatory bill that’s similar to it. Http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/01/opinion/01krugman.html
“Covert Operations: The billionaire brothers who are waging a war against Obama.” By Jane Mayer. “David and Charles Koch own all most all of Koch Industries which is ranked by Forbes as the second-largest private company after Cargill. The brothers’ combined wealth is $35 billion, third to Gates and Buffett. They believe in minimal social services and govt regulation, and drastically lower corporate and personal taxes. They’r the kingpins of climate science denial. They fund a huge network of think tanks, political front groups and the creation of the Tea Party…”
Far Right extremist Texan oil billionaires, the Koch bros, [closely allied w/ Rupert MurDork], hide in the background and bankroll the existence of the Tea Party.
